“Spezial 1”: News Studio Design

Spezial 1 is an ORF news program in which every episode covers a different topic. I created its complete corporate design and studio identity, including the studio lighting, stage design, video wall content, infographics, collages, and opening titles.

The Challenge: Every episode covers a new subject, often on short notice, yet the show needed a strong and recognizable identity.
My Role: As Design Lead for ORF1, I led the creative direction and a team of five to six designers, set designers and lighting technicians, working closely with editors and journalists.
The Approach: I developed a modular design system: a fixed core identity combined with flexible elements, with video wall visuals, infographics, collages and the opener reworked for every topic. This let the team adapt the look quickly while keeping it consistent.
The Result: A dramatic, immersive environment that holds together as a brand, feels fresh in every episode, and allows fast turnaround on breaking topics.
